Hi, I’m having some problem installing joomla extensions, such as templates and components. I am using 1.5 by the way. I try to install it using the package method, and stick the unzipped file in there, but nothing happens, nothing installs. Even when I unzip, it’s just a load of folders and css or whatever pages, so I can’t install those. I’m really stuck as to what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I feel like such an idiot
Thanks for help… but that’s the problem. It doesn’t say I need to unzip it, I put the zipped file in and all it seems to do is refresh the page.

Is there anyone out there who can explain to me in plain english (not geek language) how to find and install a video player into a Joomla Template so it will stream flash or quicktime video files?
All the searches I have done show players but little or no instruction on how to install. Everyone ASSUMES the end user knows. I unfortunately don’t. Thanks in advance.
Simple ! you download RPM Movie/ Module Joomla And use it
is joomly alone sufficient to create online dictionary or you need javascriprt, php mysql etc…
You have to customize it, may be you can contact a joomla expert at websites like http://oktutorial.com/
I just downloaded Joomla 1.5 from ( http://www.joomla.com ). I opened up the zipped file, but all I got were a bunch of folders, all sprouting into even MORE folders, with a bunch of php files inside, that my PC doesn’t know how to run.
What is the first step towards sorting all this out and getting started with Joomla?
10 pts. for best answer. Thank you all so much in advance!!
Hi
Joomla is an online content management system, you will not be able to run it from your pc unless you have Xampp or some type of server.
What you need to do is upload every file in the zip file to your server then visit your domain name, ensure you have a Mysql database ready with the host address, username and password and then yu will be able to set it up on your server.
Depending on what you are trying to acheive, Joomla may or may not be the right choice for you. I am happy to help you if needed as I have setup Joomla over 100 times…

Hello ladies and gents!!
How do I go about creating menus that can be found on:
* http://www.midas.co.za/
and where can I download beautiful web templates (also Joomla and mambo templates)?
Also curious… what application do you use to edit you mambo templates?
Please assist ASAP.
You can find Joomla Template from internet everywher on internet, it’s so easy to find.
For your own custom template,
you’d better use a joomla template, edit with dreamweaver
edit index.php, and css files, so you can custom it as you like
For exercise, use XAMPP, try for localhost, after you love entire content upload it.
http://4funlearn.blogspot.com/2008/09/joomla-tutorial-from-xampp-to-web.html
btw, the web you mention doesn’t use joomla, joomla use php mysql, that site use ASP.
but still, joomla is easy but powerfull
expand joomla with the plugins, so the web you develop will be beyond your own imagination for sure
So I am a webdesigner… I primarily do actionscripting with flash. I do play with html too, and am now going to try and start freelancing and am looking to learn how to customize an open source CMS. I really like wordpress, but I feel it’s a bit limiting, and I really like concept of Drupal and Joomla, but feel that perhaps these are a bit overwhelming too. I don’t want to learn a whole new language (php), but I do want to use a CMS. What are your thoughts? Is it ok to customize open source themes for clients? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
It seems as though you already know the main differences, though wordpress can be customised heavily it is basically blog software, we’ve created a knowledgebase ourselves using wordpress though which works well and I’m sure there are many other good uses.
Drupal and Joomla are both great CMS and both have a roughly equal share of the market. You can achieve a lot of the same things between them, but it makes sense to choose one and focus your efforts upon it fully to gain a deep knowledge of it instead of spreading yourself and being average at both.
I would suggest you spend a day or two using both, and decide which you prefer then stick with it. You will be able to develop in either fine, and both are fully skinnable, you should read the license of open source themes but most will be fine to customise yourself even for commercial use.
Regards,
Darryl
