I am signing up for web-hosting and I must choose between one of these CMS installations… Joomla or Drupal or WordPress.

Although I have no idea of what the benefits are of any of these, I would like help choosing one, then I will procede to research and learn about it.

Can someone please let me know about the benefits of each of these and help me choose one ?

TIA

Definitely wordpress. Look at one of my site powered by wordpress.

WordPress is simply the best free CMS.

I downloaded this SWEET template to my website which I’m running the CMS Joomla. Check out the template on my website: http://sowhatdesigns.com. Well I want to edit some of the main pictures such as the header that says "art color club" or whatever. Does anyone know how to edit pictures like that from Joomla?!

it is a bit tricky, you will have to open the zip file on your desktop and then find the file that you want to replace. Replace that file with what you want to use and make sure you give it the same name. Upload upload that file to your site using any FTP software when asked if you want to replace the file say yes. Thats it I do this all the time as a matter of fact it my next project!

Hey,

Does anyone know where I can find a Joomla template that doesn’t have the menu, so it’s more in the style of a sales letter?

Thanks

i love you

I have a free-hosting server with AGILTYHOSTER @ tutorials.agilityhoster.com I created a MYSQL DB, i downloaded and unzipped Joomla_1.5.6-Stable-Full_Package – Now what do i do from there? can you help me install it, or install it for me, my email address is nazmul_93@yahoo.co.uk – where i will be willing to give you my ftp details!

Do not set the permissions to 777. If you have extracted the joomla zip file to your root of the website you just need to point your browser to http://www.yourdomain.com and the install script will launch. /you will need to set a a mysql databse on your hosting account nad have that info ready during the install.

hi , i want to install joomla comments , but when i go to Extension and chose the folder from my pc this stupid message appear

Your Extension appears to be written for an older version of Joomla!. You must enable the System – Legacy Plugging in the Plugging Manager if you wish to complete this task.

my version is 1.5.8 what should id what is the right steps if i am doing wrong?

The error message tells you – "You must enable the System – Legacy Plugin in the Plugin Manager".

I’ve looked at so many, my brain is spinning. ModX, Expression Engine, Textpattern, Joomla, Drupal… too many to choose from. Basically as many things that are important to me that i can think of right now are listed here: (or a start anyway)

Ability to do it from my mac. I think most are mac compatible, but just in case. (i think dot net nuke isn’t?)

ABILITY TO USE OUR OWN TEMPLATES – I don’t want/ need to choose from any pre-existing templates. We build sites professionally using HTML and CSS — just looking for a CMS that’s easy to implement/use with our own html designs/templates.

MAKES SENSE – Stuff’s easy to organize, makes logical sense on how things are arranged — i don’t want to have to spend a whole month just finding things. :)

ABILITY TO HAVE SECONDARY PAGES/NAVIGATION — and sometimes even a third "level" of pages. Hierachical levels.

ABILITY TO ADD FUNCTIONALITY (via modules, or whatever) for things like: events, news items, staff members, graphical calendar, site search, members-only part of site (is this possible? user management?), admin control (multiple admins with various admin capability), photo galleries, blogs (?), "store", .. etc.

Just looking for something that’s worth putting the effort, time, and energy into learning — something that’s customizable enough that it will work for plenty of sites, rather than finding out that it’s missing some core feature that we need for one, or whatever.

I’m pretty proficient in HTML and CSS. Just haven’t gotten a handle on this CMS stuff yet. We currently work with a programmer that does custom php solutions for us for most projects — just to give you an idea of where i’m coming from/what i’m familiar with.

anyway… thoughts anyone? advice? anything i should know? pointers? tips? ;)

You can go for Joomla.

Is it possible to "download" my joomla site (currently online, version 1.015) back to localhost, for migration to 1.5 purpose. as I do not want to do the migration "live" with the online site just incase something goes wrong, I prefer to do it locally and then upload all the site again. I tried installing joomla 1.015 in local host, downloading and importing the online database to wamp mysql, and then to copy and paste all the ftp content online in the www local host directory, but once I do that I can’t access joomla locally anymore, as there is a message saying that there is an error, is there a correct way to do this? thanks for your time, it is my first migration, and I want to do things correctly. thanks!

Yes, you can.

You haven’t mentioned what error you’re getting (yet), but here are some things to check:

- Make sure your development mysql user name, password, and database names match production (mosConfig_user, _password, and _db in configuration.php)

- Make sure the dev site is accessing the local mysql server (mosConfig_host)

- Make sure you’ve updated mosConfig_live_site URL to point to development and not production.

- Make sure your files are readable by the web server.

If it’s not one of those, please add specifics about the error you’re getting.

We are going to be putting part of a site on joomla, mainly so 1 person can go in and edit content etc. This will be like an employee corner. There will be another section that they are requesting where counselors can go in and post notes about patients. This part will be secure. They are wanting to be able to post notes where other counselors can read etc. do you think this would be best by blog or forum or any other recommendations?

You could do this with Joomla, but I question the security of the "secure part" in that.

I would recommend Drupal. http://drupal.org

That may be a bit over the top for some, but you may like that better, plus the security is better than Joomla IMO.

I want to learn one of the better CMS software in the market today. Anyone used Joomla and/or Drupal? It seems those two are the popular one out there. Which one u think it’s better and easier to learn? And why u think that way?

Thanks.

Very heavy traffic, like newspaper, magazine … it is recommended to use drupal.

Looking for support, third party components and modules, Developer friendly, no limitation, USE Joomla

I downloaded a template for Joomla, and when I unzip it, it remains four seperate files so I can“t download it to my webpage. How do I unzip it so it becomes one icon that I can upload it?

you dont have to unzip it.

1. Log in to your administrator backend of the site. The link to your administrator section should be like this: http://www.yoursite.com/administrator/ .

On the top, go to Site -> Template Manager -> Site Templates

1. Select New from the options.

2. Browse to your template’s zip file and select it.

3. Then select Upload File & Install.

When the template has uploaded and installed on your site, select continue.

Now, let’s publish the new template.

Select the radio button on the Left of the Template name and after that click Default from the Menu to set it as your default template.

That’s it! Your template is installed and ready for viewing.
