Hi!

I’ve got a problem to-do with Joomla, (CMS) that I wondered if you could help me with?

I wondered if you could help me figure out why only content appears, no template when I click on an internal link.

People the thought the problem was the /index.php/ part before all the internal links, I then tried to get rid of the /index.php/ part so it would be: ‘http://www.trulyrandom.net/news-feeds.html’ instead of ‘http://www.trulyrandom.net/index.php/news-feeds.html’.

But then I realised that it was displaying some things but only the content not the template part. Also the ‘http://www.trulyrandom.net/news-feeds.html’ does not go through at all.

Would could be the problem?

This problem appears on all internal Joomla problems and not just on the displayed link.
No, i meant any link pointing to a link that’s all ready on my website, only links that Joomla manages.

When you say you click on an internal link, I’m assuming that this is on an intranet.

I’ve run into the same problem with my sandbox server - When I look at the website, no problem. That’s because my host variable is called "localhost". Others could see the content but no images.

Fix: Change your $mosConfig_live_site variable to the actual physical IP address on your network. Be sure that address never changes or your site will drop.

I prefer to make my sites in XHTML but its a pain to update frequently, moreover some of my clients want to do the updating themselves. I need a CMS that is stupid easy to use, lightweight, and most importantly need one that wont be a pain in the aspect of converting my html templates into cms ones, in other words, take some snippets and stick it in existing template. I heard of something suitable some time ago but I cant find it now.
Oh and the next guy suggesting Drupal Joomla, or phpnuke is getting murdered.

At the risk of my immanent demise at your hands, there’s no "template" you can drop existing code into to make it user-modifiable. You’re going to have to bite the bullet, learn programming, and write your stuff in something that’s designed to do what you want. I won’t mention product names, but look at http://php.opensourcecms.com/ - it has most if the biggies, including "J" and "D". That’s the level at which you’re going to have to operate to do what you want - actual programming.

I am brand new to Joomla. I have installed Joomla on my Windows PC (XAMPP, Apache, MySQL, PHP). I have created just a sample site just to see if it works.

Now, I want to create professional visually stunning sites, and I’m stuck. I appreciate Joomla.org for providing this nice CMS platform, but I need more than what they offer. With the parameter-based CMS, it’s so cumbersome to get nice looking web elements that you want ready to use like tabs. Do I just need to install custom templates? Where can I get free Joomla templates that looks nice. Please, give me a link to high quality templates. I’m not looking for blog-style templates with simple headers like Wordpress.org or Blogger.com. I’m looking for high quality Joomla Templates that have the visual presence as well as complex programming elements such as shopping carts using PayPal, opt-ins, user login form and database. Please help. Are there any free ones? I’m willing to pay if the prices are reasonable. Thanks.
Thanks, cazpa. I didn’t see yours until after I posted this one.

Thanks, B Smith. I appreciate your info as well.
Thanks fish out of water and technojunkie.

I appreciate everyone’s help.

If you can design a site in html you can make a template for joomla.

Design your site with what want, custom for your needs. Then plug in modules where you need them to be driven by the CMS system.

I work for a web design company that uses Joomla as our main CMS. We design custom templates for every site… so I really don’t know of a good place to download them.

It is really not hard to make a custom template for you needs. I say look in the default template for the "calls" for the different sections. Like User1, User2, Left, etc. Then you stick those in your layout and assign modules to those areas in the admin.

As far as logins and a database, those are standard, any other features you need (paypal linking modules, etc) you can just search for them online and install them in the admin.

Once they are installed, you can just assign them where you want just like the standard features.

Good Luck.

I have an existing website and I need a CMS for it. I’ve heard about Joomla and I’d like to use it, but I heard that it could only be used with new templates. Can I integrate Joomla into my existing site?

Joomla is a site framework… I use XAMPP. You can likely fit your old site into Joomla in a number of ways. You can take the content and place it into the content management parts you want to use. Any other parts that don’t fit might have a plugin like the bbs systems or blogs out there, alternatively you can put your stuff in a managed frame in joomla. Another way to integrate would be to put the joomla parts in a sub-directory but that won’t make much sense unless you want to run multiple sites as the framework is meant to manage the links, sidebars etc.
