I found a Virtuemart tutorial: http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla/joomla_virtuemart.htm

I followed the guidelines by extracting the virtuemart file into a local file and then tried to upload the com_virtuemart.x.x.tar.gz file, but I ended up getting this error:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/djsamson1313/pic.jpg

How can I make this upload writable?

Thank you for your help.

You need to change the directory PERMISSIONS in your FTP client. Here’s how:

> Right click on the MEDIA directory and look for an option that says "PROPERTIES" or "DIRECTORY PERMISSIONS".
> "Check" all of the boxes (I know this is not very "accurate", but I do not know what you are using); but, there will most likely be 9 boxes that read READ, WRITE, etc. etc.
>> Or if you have a field that currently either reads: 666 or with three numbers erase the three numbers and type in 777.
> Hit okay/apply. This should now work and make the directory writable.
> Refresh the page.
> The directory is now writable by Joomla.

I believe not only is /media needing 777 permissions, but also more directories. Follow the same pattern as above in your favorite FTP client to fix the folder permissions on the other folders.

Check out Joomla’s manual/README for further information on which directories need to be readable/writable (and chmoded by you).

Sincerely,

xq

I want to use CSS, not tables.

Please give me detailed steps (1, 2, 3) or if you know of a good tutorial, I am interested too.

Thanks!

Jooma is an independent Content Management Systema and its not a easy job to remove its table structure. But You can edit its CSS file and create your own class here and set appropiate class to moke-up your photoshop layout.

and You can USe WordPress thats table less . I made my personal Blog site with this CMS.

for CSS tutorial go to www.w3schools.com and here you will find your tutorial .

Thanks

i want a package where i can use joomla and receive a free domain preferably but a sub-domain would do as well and a host if you can get me such a package you’ll b a genius in my eyes…any joomla tutorials out there as well…all help will be greatly appreciated,
yours faithfully,
Tom Martin.

Well, it’s not COMPLETELY 100% free… but if you get a domain name from GoDaddy, they’ll HOST the site for free (Windows or Linux, your choice).

PHP and MySQL are enabled by default, so at that point all you have to do is upload and configure Joomla.
