I have an H-Sphere hosting account. Im running a Joomla CMS and I’ve just updated the templates. I need to make additional changes to specific templates but apparently I dont have permissions to make the changes. I tried to apply CHMOD to the files and still I cannot reupload-delete-or edit any files in that directory. In my FTP I see the owner of the files as httpd
Files with owner httpd are created by your webserver. You can only change ownership of those files if you:
a) are the owner, or
b) are root on the machine in question.
You will not be able to meet (a), as i previously explained why. If you are root, use the command chown to switch ownership of those files to you and modify them as needed. If not, then consult your system administrator.

2009 Jul 01 2This is because these files are controlled by the server and you have no way to change them. This is your ISP’s protection against dangerous changes.

2009 Jul 01 3From what i recall, Joomla requires the files to be chmodded to 755. The owner of the files should be your username, with the group being the webserver (in this case httpd) …

2009 Jul 01 4Here are two ways to fix that.
1. Email your host and they will fix it, as previous posters said you just need to change the owner of the files. Easy 2 min fix.
2. You might try going into your file manager in Hsphere and try deleting the files or chmoded them to 755 there. That might work depending on how they have it setup.

2009 Jul 01 5You really need to get with a host that will offer you full cpanel access and allow you to change the files. You can get this from as little as $5-$6 a month easily.
