Joomla, CMS problem?
06 Aug 2009
I am playing around with Joomla but i have no idea what i am doing. Any tips for me especially when it comes to the database that i need.
Why do i need a mysql database?
You need a database to store files, data and content of your site. And since Joomla is highly functional (interactive with users), it needs to store input/feedback from users for core functions to work (like contact forms, enews signups, forums, etc). That’s what the database is for among other things. If you have hosting, you should already have a database available to you in your plan. Contact the provider for more info. You really should find Joomla’s tutorials/start up guide to make the most of it.

To answer your question fully – you need a mysql database – firstly, as this is an open -source database (and Joomla! is open-source), secondly because the content is stored on the database and retrieved as end users click around your website.
