In this tutorial you will learn how to MANUALLY install Joomla 1.5 onto a REMOTE server with cPanel.

This video demonstrates installation on a namecheap.com hosted web space, but if you have another hosting provider that provides cpanel this will almost certainly work for you as well.
You might have to manually configure the FTP file system access layer after install if you have errors when trying to install templates. Tutorial here:

If you run into any problems, I suggest watching my tutorial on how to install Joomla on a FREE 000webhost website; If you can install it there, you can install it anywhere:

Or, if your provider has Fantastico (or similar auto-installer), you can auto-install Joomla, but you might not be getting Joomla 1.5 that way. Tutorial here:

2009 Aug 03 9You get more email …
You get more email space on namecheap.
The big difference between the 2 is that namecheap uses cPanel which has lots of cool features whereas godaddy uses it’s own custom interface which is a real pain to work with/navigate through.
One of the only things i like more about godaddy is that its more expensive deluxe plan allows for unlimited domain hosting whereas namecheap is capped at 20 for its pro hosting, which is a big issue if anyone planned to make websites and host professionally.

2009 Aug 03 10I use name cheap …
I use name cheap Basic at $2.91/month, 2 year plan:
* 5GB space
* 250GB transfer
* 50 email accounts
* 15 MySQL databases
* 1 hosted domain
* no parked domains
* 15 subdomains
* 5 FTP users
* All the features of Email Only
5GB is a lot, unless you are streaming video,in which case any host will shut your site if you are on their basic plan very quickly.
Comparable Godaddy will cost:
2 year plan: 10 GB Space, 300 GB Transfer, $4.50/mo

earlier this year 000webhost imposed a file quota of 2000 files (joomla has about 4000) so it want possible to do anymore, which is why i made the vids private. BUT some people have told me it works again. I just haven’t had time to verify. I fyou send me a friend request I will add you to the private list so you can see them. Then you can try for yourself and let me know.

2009 Aug 03 23Yes, while cPanel …
Yes, while cPanel is a product, your host has the ability to turn on/off specific features. I am AMAZED though that your host has disabled zip extraction as this I deem to be VERY rare. And if your host uses a control panel other than cPanel that is IE only, time to get a new host.

The thing is, you need a cpanel which supports to extract a zip file. Mine doesn’t unfortunately. Also some file managers support only Internet Explorer, which is how Linux-users are excluded…
